What does the passage in Philippians tell us about where our ultimate loyalty should lie as Christians?

Do you think politics poses a temptation for Christians to love or trust something more than Jesus? If so, how? 

Looking back through history, what are some ways Christians have placed their ultimate trust in nations, movements, or political parties? What have been the results? 

What are some ways Christians are tempted to place politics above Jesus in America today? 

How can Christians resist this temptation?
