"When you have more than you need, build a longer table, not a higher fence." Empowered by the Holy Spirit, we are called to continue filling Jesus' table, not with people who look, think, believe and behave just like us. Quite the opposite! When we take our place at Jesus' table, we can expect to be surprised by the people we're sitting next to.

Jesus notices who is missing from his table. He sees the empty chairs that ought to be filled. And He tells his guests to go out and invite them- the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind… and while you’re at it, why not add some women and the Gentiles too. Jesus notices who is NOT at his table. And He wants us to see it too. Because I think Jesus knows- that when we see it- that’s when we’ll do something about it.

As we learned last week, Jesus invites us – ALL of us – to sit down with Him. Jesus invites us to grace. And as soon as we say yes to Jesus’ grace, Jesus then throws us – ALL of us- into community.

We made it! This will conclude our passage through the Bible with the Long Story Short series. Dr. David Bruner gives us a crash course in what makes the book of Revelation so unique, how the Beatle's can put us in the right perspective, and then walks us through some of the interesting metaphors that rededicate the importance of the Bible and Jesus.

The Bible's last book was written by John the Revelator around 75-100 AD. He writes a letter to Christian communities he knows but cannot visit in person, because he's been exiled by the Roman empire to the Island of Patmos. But even in the wake of exile and persecution, John writes about hope. A greater hope, the greatest hope- a hope that keeps you going when you’ve lost everything.
